My view? What I'd like to say is that if we come to their countries, we have to cover up. So why should it be any different when they come here? There's nothing in the Koran about "cover up thyself". In fact, they seem to promote that their religion doesn't restrict. Well...! I find myself getting provoked when I see these women walking around showing their eyes only - some say it's because no man apart from their husband should know a) what they look like and b) what their body looks like. The thing is, apparently, that women shouldn't walk around like - well, us - cause men shouldn't be tempted. How about this then? Control yourselves, pigs. It's probably politically incorrect of me to say this, but these men have been taught from a young age that women are less worthy and should only be seen by one man; their husband. That they've most likely been set up with by their parents. Cause, really, it's women's fault that men can't seem to control their dicks, isn't it? In my mother's doc surgery, there was a doctor - a woman - wearing a full burka. The children were scared shitless, the patients - mainly old and sick - were in discomfort. I understand that. There was also a muslim doctor. A man. My mother went to him cause he had taken over from her regular doctor that was on holiday. She went in to have her blood pressure taken and to have some blood tests. He informed her that he couldn't touch her. She asked how come? And he showed her his wedding ring and said "I'm married, I can't touch another woman." Well, fuck-me, don't be a goddamn doctor then! He didn't last long... This is what I mean... if they wanna come to our country - fine. You're welcome. But for God's sake, at least try to integrate yourselves a little. We let them build their mosques - there's a massive one in the London South Bank. I can't imagine for a second that if a bunch of Christians came to one of their countries that we'd be able to put up a fucking church in the centre of the capital. My view is a bit like this... if you don't like living the way we do in our countries and don't want to even try to be integrated in our society... leave. My bottom line: get rid of all f-ing religion and we'd all live in harmony. What are the main reasons for war? Religion, money, land and securing energy. Take away the religion part and we're well on our way to a more peaceful world. ![]() |

| MissFreeek October 8, 2006 10:27 AM PDT I've just heard something even more stupid to "justify" the use of the niqab. Someone from the Council of Muslims for Britain just said that it's ohhh-sooooo unreasonable of Jack Straw to expect that a woman who goes to his office is and speaks to him, is kindly asked to remove the niqab. It would be like asking a western woman to CHANGE HER HAIRSTYLE. Well, I'm sorry, but have these people lost the plot or are they plain stupid? Hiding your face DOES NOT compare to having a curly ginger hairstyle. Surely, they can see that. Isn't the principle behind the use of the niqab that women need to *hide* their face because their attractiveness may tempt men? Well then. In OUR society, hiding your face is rude and generally very unpleasant to see. And BTW - this does not only apply to Muslim women, teenagers who wear hoods at the job centre, are asked to lower it. Hiding your face might be acceptible in Muslim ssocieties (a *must* even, my stewerdess friend is not even allowed to disimbarque the plane without the niqab in places like Saudi Arabia), but it simply isn't here, in the western world. What's so complicated with this concept? Also: I strongly agree with the view that at school it should be banned. If you disagree with me, go and observe pupils from secondary schools. They are in desperate need to "fit in". How do you think these young girls who are forced to cover their faces, feel? And how much does this help their integration? I will give you the simple answers: the girls feel "different and left out" and the western kids generally intimidated and un-interested in bonding with them, because the niqab is a barrier. Now, this is the REALITY, guys. This is what goes on, not what would happen in an ideal world. We live in the UK, there are certain customs here, conform, or get out. | ||
| yogger October 6, 2006 10:00 PM PDT ğMulti kultiĞ does NOT work - politicians praise mulitple cultures living side by side in harmony. It is not. There are 4 million muslims in Germany, most of them separate themselves from the other (religious) groups, they do NOT integrate themselves in the European/German/whatever culture. In Istanbul, a court judged that woman must not wear niqab at University. But Turkmen do at German universities and school. There _is_ something wrong here. Theo van Gogh was murdered by a fundamental muslim in Amsterdam and became became a martyr to free expression. | ||
| Yogster October 6, 2006 06:36 PM PDT @Rula You're over-simplifying. In *many* Muslim countries, while visiting women are not *required* to cover up, many locals will take great offence at those that don't. @Everyone I think it's about time the UK became a secular state. That is, in everyday life society does not pander to the "wants or needs" of *any* religion. So, if people want to practice their religions in the privacy of their own homes, or in their agreed places of worship, then fine. Apart from that e.g. when they're at high-school, at universities, at work, at the shops, out socially, then we should make absolutely no concessions of any kind. For example, if a high-school has a rules for the way the pupils can dress, there should be no exceptions for those that want to cover themselves up. | ||
| Knobby October 6, 2006 06:13 PM PDT I don't mean to be disrespectful, and I'm not saying all muslims are unwilling to compromise or are nuts - there certainly are enough christians that are out of their minds. There are, however, some that think they can come to another country and just expect everyone to play by their rules. Practice your religion at home as much as you like. Sacrifice a lamb if you want - just keep it off the work place, out of schools, out of doctor surgeries... I went to school with a muslim guy that didn't want to drink out of a glass unless I could verify that it hadn't had any alcohol in it at any point. He also suggested that I was "dirty" cause I had a dog. I've also gone to school with christian fanatics that couldn't have an arguement without using the words "but the bible says..." or "but Jesus did..." or "you just haven't found God yet". Who's responsible for the terrorist attacks and attempted terrorist attack this last year? Religious fanatics that think they'll end up in heaven if they kill innocent people. I'm sorry, but any religion or person that suggests that this is normal or acceptable behaviour needs to get outta my fucking face. | ||
| Knobby October 6, 2006 06:01 PM PDT I keep thinking of "Not Without My Daughter" - that was Iran, wasn't it? I generally think people should practice their religion behind closed doors - that goes for all, not just extreme cases. | ||
